Leh to Manali – A Journey Through the Heart of the Himalayas

The journey from Leh to Manali is one of the most breathtaking road trips in India. Stretching across rugged mountains, high-altitude passes, and vast barren landscapes, this route offers travelers an unforgettable experience through the mighty Himalayas. More than just a means of travel, the Leh–Manali road is a journey of adventure, endurance, and natural beauty.

Starting from Leh, the capital of Ladakh, the journey begins amidst stark landscapes, ancient monasteries, and crystal-clear skies. As the road winds southward, travelers cross some of the world’s highest motorable passes, including Tanglang La, which stands at an altitude of over 5,300 meters. The thin air and dramatic scenery make this stretch both challenging and awe-inspiring.

Further along the route, the terrain changes subtly as one crosses Baralacha La, a majestic mountain pass connecting Ladakh with Himachal Pradesh. Snow-capped peaks, glacial streams, and wide-open plains dominate the view, offering countless photo opportunities. En route, travelers often halt at Sarchu, a popular overnight stop known for its dramatic landscapes and tented accommodations.

Itinerary

After your arrival, direct transfer to the hotel for acclimatization to high altitude of Ladakh( almost 3000 ft ). It requires you to exert yourself as less as possible. Visit Main Bazar, Leh Palace, Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, Shanti Stupa. In the evening, take a walk around the streets of the city or go for local shopping on Tibetan handicrafts, souvenirs or woolen clothes. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, head out for sightseeing where you’ll be awestruck by the sight of the Indus & Zanskar River Sangam, drive along the Indus river visiting Pathar Sahib Gurdwara and Magnetic Hill, and further on to Leh Hall of Fame (which has a museum of the Kargil War memorabilia)

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Leh – Nubra

After breakfast, we checkout and leave for the Diskit district of Nubra Valley. We cross through Khardung La; world’s highest motorable pass at 18,380 ft. On the way we visit the ancient Diskit monastery which was built in 14th century and is one of the oldest monastery of the Nubra Valley.
Keep your eyes ready for some picturesque view of the sand dunes, vast valleys and the “Two Humped Camels”. 

We end our day with tempting dinner and overnight stay in Nubra valley.

Nubra – Tur Tuk – Nubra

After a delicious breakfast, drive towards Turtuk. Turtuk is the last outpost in India after which the Pakistan-controlled Gilgit-Baltistan begins and is one of the gateways to the Siachen Glacier. The place is culturally, linguistically, and historically different from what you’ve seen till now in your Ladakh holiday as it falls under the Gilgit-Baltistan region. Even the landscape is different with dramatic narrow valleys and steep mountains, unlike Central Ladakh and Nubra.

Comparatively, situated at a lower altitude than Leh, you’ll see green pastures here that yield fresh produce like apricots and apples. Come back to the camps and indulge in a lip-smacking dinner.

Nubra – Pangong

Today we leave for one of the most popular and beautiful attractions of your trip – Pangong. A major “hot-spot” for many film shoots, “The Pangong Lake” lies on the Indo-China Border. The route is on the picturesque villages of Shey and Gompa. Just spend time walking lakeside soaking in the breathtaking view of the crystal clear water and the majestic mountains and dive into the beauty of mother Earth. Overnight stay and dinner at campsite.

Wake up in the morning to the beautiful Pangong Lake view. The journey from Pangong Lake to Tso Moriri takes you from very scenic landscapes.

The route runs along the shoreline of Pangong Tso lake and then goes deep towards Tsaga La Pass, further to Loma – Nyoma, and meets at Mahe Bridge. Witness the changing hues of the lake and fall in love with nature all over again with a trip to Tso Moriri.

Enjoy a delicious dinner around the bonfire under the open sky. Overnight stay at a campsite near Tso Moriri lake

After a delicious breakfast, Check out from your hotel/camps in Tso Moriri.
After which the driver will pick you up and assist you with a smooth transfer to Sarchu. On your way to Sarchu, enjoy a stopover in More Plains and Lachung La Pass. Then continue your journey through Gata Loops, which is a series of 21 hairpin bend roads. Afterward, reach Sarchu and get transferred to your pre-booked campsite for an overnight stay.

Check out from your Campsite in Sarchu, after which the driver will assist you with a smooth transfer to Manali. On your way to Manali, enjoy stopovers in Baralacha La Pass, Suraj Tal, Zingzing Bar, Deepak Tal, Sissu Lake, Sissu Waterfall, and Atal Tunnel. Afterward, reach Manali.

  • Medical and travel insurance
  • Any transportation which is not mentioned in the itinerary.
  • Expenses caused by factors beyond our control like Rail and Flight Delays| Roadblocks| Vehicle Malfunctions| Political Disturbances etc.
  • Anything not mentioned under “inclusions”.

Domestic Cancellation Policy

  • Once the booking is done- 20% of package cost will be charged as a cancellation fee.
  • 30 days prior to departure- 30% of package cost will be charged as a cancellation fee.
  • 15 days prior to departure- 50% of package cost will be charged as a cancellation fee.
  • 10 days till the departure- 100% of package cost will be charged as a cancellation fee.
  • No Show No Refund.

Payment Policy

  • 25% of total land package cost shall be paid to initiate a booking if the travel date is more than 30 days from the date of bookings.
  • 50% of total land package cost amount shall be paid before 15 days of the departure date.
  • 25% of total land package cost amount before 7 days of the departure date.
  • Any Flight bookings shall be paid 100% in advance.
  • Full payment of package cost is required if the booking date is 7 days before the departure date.
